Model Name: Gayle Bradley Model Reference: C134 Designer: Gayle Bradley MSRP: $214.95 (Gen1), $229.95 (Gen2) Description: Gayle Bradley is a knifemaker from Texas who has been making knives since 1988. This is his first production collaboration knife and features CPM M-4 steel, which is similar to standard M-4 but made using Crucible Power Metallurgy technology resulting in a finer grained steel and sharper edges. This knife also benefits from the reduced cost of shipping American steel to Taiwan for Production.
Generation 2: The folder has been refined through Spyderco’s CQI process to produce a thinner, lighter version that also gives better grip and control. This new version drops 1oz in weight.
Model Name: Bug Model Reference: C133 Designer: Sal Glesser MSRP: $7.95 Description: The most affordable Spyderco Knife at $7.95 (Street Price $4!), this flat-ground wonder has no lock, and uses a slipjoint system to keep the blade open.
Model Name: Chokwe Model Reference: C132 Designer: Sal Glesser (?) MSRP: $219.95 Description: The Chokwe is another knife in Spyderco’s Ethnic series of knives, this design derived from the Chokwe people of Zambia or Democratic Republic of Congo region of Central Africa. Approximately 5% of all sales go to the “Keep a Child Alive Organization” which is dedicated to HIV/AIDS retroviral treatment for Children and their Families in Africa and other developing areas of the world. The Chokwe is another of Spyderco’s knives that uses US-Made CPM-S30V that is shipped to Taiwan for production in order to reduce costs.
Model Name: Terzuola Slipit Model Reference: C131 Designer: Bob Terzuola MSRP: $159.95 Description: This model uses a ball joint non-locking slipjoint system and resembles Terzuola’s custom peices. The pocket clip is even Terzuola’s on this one.
Model Name: Chicago Model Reference: C130 Designer: Sal Glesser MSRP: $69.95 Description: The Spyderco C130 Chicago is the little brother to the C129 Cat. The Chicago has a the same S30V blade and Carbon Fiber construction made in Taiwan. Chicago has a state law where you cannot carry knives over 2″ in blade length, and that’s where the C130 Chicago from Spyderco comes in!
Model Name: Cat Model Reference: C129 Designer: Sal Glesser MSRP: $74.95 Description: The Spyderco Cat is another one of Spyderco’s Taiwan-made knives utilizing US-made CPM-S30V Steel. The pricepoint of the C129 Cat and it’s little brother the C130 Chicago is incredibly low for a CPM-S30V steel knife with carbon fiber scales. The quality however, is reflected in the knife’s fit and finish as many reviews have mentioned.
Model Name: Leaf Storm Model Reference: C128 Designer: Kevin Wilkins MSRP: $249.95 Description: The Leaf Storm is a high-end collaboration folder designed by Kevin Wilkins. It mates a CPM-S30V blade with Translucent G-10 scales and Titanium framelock. One of my personal favourites from Spyderco in a long time. There exists a pilot run of 50 peices marked “Pilot-50pcs”.
Model Name: Urban Model Reference: C127 Designer: Sal Glesser MSRP: $149.95 Description: The Spyderco Urban continues Spyderco’s trend of building knives for usability, and as our knife laws tighten up, there will continue to be Spyderco knives we can use such as the non-locking Slipits. The UK Penknife was the first of these knives, and the Urban follows in the tradition. Available in two blade shapes: Wharncliffe and Leaf-Shape.
Model Name: Rock Lobster Model Reference: C126 Designer: Jens Anso MSRP: $329.95 Description: The Rock Lobster is the creation of Danish Knifemaker Jens Anso, the industrial designer-turned knifemaker that has been one of the hottest makers of the decade. He licensed the Spyderco hole from Spyderco many years ago and has been integrating it succesfully into his designs, and finally a collaboration model has come to the market. This model has an extraordinarily high MSRP for a knife of this construction and material, likely due to the royalties paid to the designer.
Model Name: Khukuri Model Reference: C125 Designer: Ed Schempp MSRP: $229.95 Description: Another of Ed Schempp’s Ethnic series designs for Spyderco, the Khukuri is the National knife of Nepal. The blade shape is common amongst many other ancient cultures as well, but is most closely associated with the Nepalese culture as it is still in use today.
